I do applied work aimed at helping to keep the flow of information free, particularly in conflict zones. The Voices Projects are an example: two collaborative twitter feeds that bypassed internet shutdowns in Libya and Egypt.
My doctoral work examines the human security implications of climate change, and climate change adaptation. My primary fieldwork site is the flooded outskirts of Dakar, Senegal. I’ve sometimes put robotic cameras on kites to document flooding. The photos are interesting, but some Senegalese birds don’t appreciate the company.
